Manitowoc 2250 Repaired in Andes

Manitowoc 2250 Repaired in Andes

A Manitowoc 2250 suffered multiple broken teeth on the swing bearing and swing pinion. The crane was located at approximately 10,000 feet in the Andes Mountains outside of Santiago, Chile. With a demanding production schedule, replacement of the bearing and pinion was not a practical solution. WHECO was called upon to provide a safe, time- and cost-effective structural repair. Our division manager from Seattle, and one technician, were dispatched and spent two weeks providing precise welding services to build up the teeth as well as repair the two damaged swing pinions. A representative of the crane owner said, though he was typically not easy to impress, he was impressed by WHECO’s performance on this project.
